Peoplesafe CEO comments on updated HSE guidance

Posted: 24 Feb, 2022.

During the pandemic, the Health and Safety Executive extended their guidance to include employees working from home as lone workers. This means that employers now have a duty of care that extends to their employees’ homes as a workplace, and therefore, they should be checking in to ensure their employees have a safe space to work in.

Naz Dossa, CEO of Peoplesafe and Chair of the BSIA Lone Worker Committee, commented:

“Now that home workers are considered as lone workers under the Health and Safety Executive’s guidance, that means that the place of work extends to an individual’s home, so as an employer, you need to ensure that this place of work is safe.”

The new guidance poses an important question around where an employer’s duty of care ends. Watch Naz’s full interview for his take on the issue.
