Persimmon Homes

Persimmon Homes is the UK’s largest house builder, building 10,000 new homes every year in over 400 prime locations.

Founded in 1972, and with their headquarters in historic York, Persimmon build homes in Scotland through to the North and Midlands, across East Anglia and Wales, down to the South and South West of England.

Responsible employers

As responsible employers, Persimmon Homes knew that team members working in marketing suites were vulnerable to verbal and physical abuse. Their health and safety team were keen to find a cost effective and efficient means of protecting their lone workers. David Smith, Sales Director of Persimmon Homes in North Yorkshire, said; “some of our lone workers have had to face serious threats before. These include verbal abuse, physical abuse, intimidating behaviour and robbery”.

“Our lone workers are at a degree of risk each time they show a prospective buyer around our new properties as they are out of sight of the rest of the team – and as many of our staff are female the risks are obvious.”
David Smith, Sales Director

After much consideration, Persimmon Homes chose lone worker safety experts Peoplesafe who assessed their needs and suggested a solution using the MySOS ID Badge device. A successful trial followed and lone workers across North Yorkshire were issued with safety devices.

The Peoplesafe safety device being used by Persimmon’s lone workers is fitted with the latest mobile technology to enable users to raise an alarm when threatened. The device is designed to be discreet and a SOS alarm can be raised without suspicion if an employee is faced with confrontation.
