SRL Traffic Systems
Overview
SRL Traffic Systems is the UK and RoI’s largest manufacturer and supplier of mobile intelligent transport system (ITS) products and integrated solutions. SRL have more than thirty depots across the UK and Ireland, which provide a responsive service to customers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
SRL work across various sectors, including highways, construction, events and utilities and work with traffic management companies, responding to, and providing temporary solutions to support the safety of road users.

The Challenge
SRL wanted to better protect their lone workers, having experienced an issue where an employee was confronted on site during an evening install. The company wanted to provide its lone working team with the means to raise an alarm remotely should they need assistance or to call for help and to provide peace of mind, as part of its ongoing employer duty of care.
The Solution
Mark Gordon, ESH&Q Manager at SRL, was initially looking for a body-worn panic alarm style device. But when he discovered the Peoplesafe Pro lone working app, he realised just how easily this simple and effective piece of software could be integrated into SRL’s existing mobile device network, negating the need for staff to carry any additional devices or equipment.
The discreet activation function of the Pro App was also very appealing because it provides the ability to set up check-in intervals, which can be tailored for each specific task. If an employee fails to complete the check-in process, Peoplesafe’s ARC (Alarm Receiving Centre) can contact the employee to confirm their welfare. In the event of no answer or any danger or threat detected, the ARC response will be escalated to alert line managers or deploy emergency services if and when required.
The Results
Trials with the Peoplesafe Pro App were very well received by the SRL workforce, who found it to be user-friendly and efficient. Now that it has been rolled out, staff have instant access to help in the event of any emergency, with no need for any extra equipment.
Employees now feel reassured that help is on hand for them 24/7, should they need it, particularly when in remote areas, or whilst working out of hours.
Our team has found the simplistic layout and ease of use to be a benefit and we are also able to tailor the technology for individual user needs, as not all tasks and roles are the same.
I particularly like the app’s integrated use of What3Words to pinpoint the exact location of an activated device. This is a perfect fit for us, as we have teams working in lots of diverse locations.
