The Hidden Safety Signal

Feeling unsafe is quietly reshaping how people work, and costing your business

Most workers say they feel safe at work, yet more than half have felt unsafe at least once in the past year. Safety, should therefore, be seen as contextual, shifting with time, location, staffing and isolation.

What matters for businesses is that feeling unsafe changes how people work, reducing productivity, prompting absence and turned-down shifts, and pushing people to consider leaving. Much of this never reaches an incident log.

For leaders, this changes the question. It is no longer enough to ask how many incidents occur. Instead, we need to ask how safe our people feel, where and when that changes, and what they are doing differently as a result.
