Man down alarm system safety

Man down alarm systems offer peace of mind that help can still be summoned even if the worker has become unconscious when they’re out of sight or working alone. Providing a lone worker solution that ensures rapid assistance is vital in a host of industries and at Peoplesafe, our Man Down alarm can be incorporated into a host of workspaces.

Falls from height are the most common type of fatal accidents for workers in the UK. Similarly, slips, trips and falls are the most common type of accident that causes injuries.

The need to support workers after suffering a fall is evident, which is why we offer man down alarms that will automatically raise an SOS alarm in the event that someone carrying a Peoplesafe device or app falls over.

Our man down alarm devices are industry-leading products with extensive testing carried out at the Tetra test centre.

How do man down alarm systems work?

Our patented man down alarm uses three factors that mimic a falling motion to raise an SOS alarm. When man down (or fall detection) is enabled on one of our devices or app it will raise an alarm once it detects all of these three events:

  1. A fall from a height,
  2. A period of non-movement and,
  3. A change in orientation.

The device or smartphone will then vibrate to tell the user that an alarm is being raised. The Controllers in our Alarm Receiving Centre will know that it is a man down alarm and proceed accordingly.

The latest update enhances man down for users working at height. The system will continue to detect falls, but it will disregard the orientation of the user’s body because they will be in a harness keeping them upright.

Reduce false alarms

Configure the man down alarm

We know that one size doesn’t fit all when it comes to personal safety technology. That’s why our man down alarm has different sensitivity levels which can be configured in-app, or remotely by the customer support team for device users.

It can be easy to set off man down alarms by accident simply by throwing the device or phone on the sofa at the end of the day. Users can cancel false man down alarms by pressing the power button three times on the device or shaking the phone for app users.
