Wainhomes South West Holdings Ltd
Wainhomes South West Holdings Ltd, based in the South West region of the UK build and develop approximately 400 new homes each year across the area. Being a company who take the safety of their staff seriously, they have turned to Peoplesafe’s lone worker protection service to safeguard their employees.
With around 15 offices, Wainhomes South West Holdings Ltd employs a number of sales executives who work alone within new home developments. These employees spend their day predominately with the public. They are responsible for meeting and greeting prospective house purchasers and conducting escorted tours of the new show homes. The company also employs a team of area sales managers who conduct similar public-facing work whilst commuting to varying locations to visit potential homeowners.
Due to the spontaneity of working with the public, these members of staff are vulnerable to experiencing difficult, challenging situations within their working environment. In fact, after experiencing real-life incidents themselves, this has become more of a reality for the staff at Wainhomes, further emphasising the need for lone worker protection.
As stated by Adrian Dyer, Regional Sales Director at Wainhomes S.W Holdings Ltd – “on one occasion a member of staff activated their device when a conversation got very heated during a housing visit. The site manager was alerted by Peoplesafe, who was then able to attend to defuse the situation”.
The employees utilise Peoplesafe’s solution by wearing the device attached to an identity badge holder on a lanyard. This is a functional benefit for the staff as this is already a fundamental accessory worn daily for this type of job. Having the flexibility of being able to wear the device disguised as a badge holder provides staff with discreet backup.
With just a simple press of a button, the user can raise an alarm in an emergency situation. Once activated, the alarm is received by Peoplesafe’s state-of-the-art, 24-hour operating Alarm Receiving Centre. One of Peoplesafe’s trained Alarm Controllers will then silently listen in and if safe to do so, reassure the user using the device’s two-way audio functionality. If it is deemed necessary, the Alarm Controller can summon emergency help to the employee, using the device’s GPS capability.
Being accredited to the highest lone worker standard – BS 8484:2016 – gives Peoplesafe priority access to the police control rooms via a Unique Reference Number (URN). This enables the emergency services to provide employees with a quicker response.
Adrian continues, “overall, we decided to opt for Peoplesafe as all elements of the service are professional and the solution meets the specific needs of our lone workers”.
With Peoplesafe’s service in place, employees at Wainhomes S.W can feel reassured that they have 24-hour support should they find themselves in a challenging situation. They can also call for help without alerting an aggressor and making a potentially life-threatening situation worse.
Adrian concludes, “we would strongly recommend Peoplesafe to all organisations looking to protect their employees. Not only will you receive a first class service, but your staff will have complete peace of mind when working alone.”
